I wanted to reach out to other women who have made this decision, wherever you are in the journey. Please be encouraged by our story: We tried for over three years to get pregnant with no success on our own. We had undergone three rounds of IUI (because why not?), we were dealing with very poor sperm statistics all the way around, and AMA (Advanced Maternal Age). Not very promising. We were heartbroken after a while. We stopped even seeing our fertility doctor....I couldn't take it anymore. He estimated that, all things considered, we had less than a 5% chance of con...
I always knew I would have fertility issues, but I had no idea of the struggle my husband and I would have to go through to start our family. I was just about to turn 40 when I got married, and had a history of endometriosis, fibroids, and tubal problems. Not a good start! But we jumped in enthusiastically, sure that "a little help" would bring us the baby we so longed for. I had wanted to be a mom since I was a little girl, always babysitting and holding others' babies, dreaming of the day when I would be pregnant and hold my own angel. We started IVF treatment with my own...
Our Journey to Evelina Jean I remember the exact moment when my husband and I decided we were ready to start our family. It was February 2008. We were in our second year of marriage, both had great jobs and were vacationing in the Dominican Republic. I was 28 years old and was sure we had plenty of time to try. A year went by, and we figured maybe our timing was off. I wasn't worried though hey, I was only 29 years old. We had several friends in our age group, and even older, who were conceiving children with no problems. "It just wasn't our time yet." Another ...
We found each other in our mid 30s and started trying for children soon after. After two years of no success we got a medical check up and we're told it was just an age issue. In our country, New Zealand, we needed to be unsuccessful for five years before we could receive any govt funded IVF treatment. So at 39.9 years old we started treatment. The first miscarriage was at 9 weeks on mum's 40th birthday. The second miscarriage from an FET from the same batch was at about 6 weeks. On the day that mum started to miscarry was also the day our clinic decided was a good time to ...
So Lucky on Number 7 Get comfortable because my story is a long one! Sean and I met later in life, and began our adventures in IVF when I was 40. We were lucky enough to create a lot of embryos, but unfortunately I didn't know about PGD, so I now feel we wasted precious months and years suffering negative pregnancy tests and miscarriages due to my older eggs. We gave up the hope of expanding our family, which consisted of one wonderful big kid from a previous marriage; us; and our beloved dog. As the months went by, I couldn't seem to let go of the thought that there was so ...
Miracles do Happen! - Jen's Personal Story I'm not even sure where to begin, I guess from the start. Our journey started way back in the fall of 2001, yes almost 14 years ago now. We got married in September and decided we wanted to have a family, so our journey began. At first I didn't worry too much about not getting pregnant because it had taken my sister a long time (about 6 years), although I did cry a lot when it didn't happen. After 7 years of nothing working and getting extremely frustrated we finally got in to see a local ob-gyn. The first thing he did was ...
We Found a Way About a year after getting married, my husband and I started trying to have a family. Naively, we thought it would happen in a few months. A year went by and we had no success. We met with a fertility clinic and started the testing, which didn't give us any insight. We decided to try IUI first. We did 4 rounds, all negative. We moved on to IVF. We did two cycles, both negative. After a frustrating conversation with the doctor, we switched clinics. We met with Dr. Greenhouse at Shady Grove Fertility. He ran more tests, which gave us the same res...
Building our family through adoption and donor egg For nearly 10 years I held hope to see a heartbeat on an ultrasound screen, to hold my husband's hand and dream of the next 9 months to unfold. At one point in my journey I had lost all hope of ever experiencing the gift of pregnancy and birth. We had given up and started what we at the time thought would be a "sure thing" - adoption. If only I knew then, what I know now. My husband and I were in our early 30's when we started infertility treatment. We tried 11 cycles of IVF and frozen embryo transfers. With each cycle, ...
We used DEB USA after nearly a decade of infertility struggles. I wish I'd gone the frozen donor egg route sooner! The process was so easy, the staff so helpful, and the outcome (our daughter) so miraculous!! We had tried IVF four times with my own eggs but nothing happened due to issues with my ovarian reserve. My doctor suggested donor eggs and while I was initially sad, looking into my daughter's eyes, all that sadness is gone. I'm her mommy and will always be. Thank you so much for giving us the biggest blessing of our lives!!!
Today during an ultrasound, my baby had the hiccups; I've never seen such a beautiful sight. I am 13 weeks pregnant with my first child- now all is going well, but it wasn't easy getting here. I endured a year and a half of constant infertility efforts, characterized by my body underperforming, injections, cancelled cycles, decisions about untested treatments, and massive anxiety and irritability- alternating with a relentless hope that only ensured a deeper disappointment as all treatments failed. Finally my doctor recommended the use of an egg donor. I couldn't bear the...
Against all odds I knew tying my tubes was the right decision when my marriage was ending and I didn't want anymore children with my husband. I was thirty- three years old and was happy with my two children, one boy and one girl however little do I know the journey I was about to embark on. When I met my current husband I was aware he wanted children since he did not have any so at the age of thirty-eight I under went surgery to untie my tubes. At the time my husband was in medical school and was not ready to have children however I was not getting any younger and I knew...
Our journey began like so many others'. I stopped taking the pill after my husband and I married in 2011. But after two years of trying and six unsuccessful IUI attempts, we realized that this journey to parenthood might be longer than we thought...
